PROTECTED SHAGS SHOT

It has been reported to the Department of Internal Affairs that colonics of spotted shags are being shot on the cliffs overlooking the sea at Curio Bay, near Waikawa, Southland. As this species of bird is absolutely protected offenders are liable to prosecution with a substantial fine. Notices arc to be displayed above the cliffs where the birds are nesting, calling attention to the fact that the spotted shag is a protected bird.
