NEW AMERICAN LINERS COMPETITION IN PACIFIC LONDON. Oct. 23 In an editorial article tho Daily Mail .gays that the completion of the proposed three American transpacific liners might see the extinction of British competition unless something is done meantime. "Seven years have passed since the hard-pressed British Pacific lines besought Government help against foreign subsidised tonnage," states the .editorial. "The question of laying down two British ships was postponed because of rising costs, but it should be reopened immediately. "Not prestige, but security, demands British maritime supremacy, and here is a matter which might well be handled by a new Ministry of Merchant Shipping-" ■
