GIRLS AND MAKE-UP

REPLIES TO CRITICISM NOT "LIKE ICED CAKES" [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, Oct, 18 City girls do not agree that they make-up too heavily, and look "like iced cakes." These charges were made by Miss K. Brown, of Cowra, at the Leadership Camp, at Caragabal, Near South Wales. Miss Brown also said that the country girl was as well dressed as the city girl, and, with her clean, fresh complexion, better looking. Yesterday the voice of the city replied. Miss Joan Peacock said: "I do not think country girls know how so dress. I think they are dowdy—except those who come to the city frequently. City girls do not make-up too much, but half of them do not know how to use cosmetics to advantage." Miss Thelma Hough* a millinery designer, said: "I admire the country girl for her ease of manner, but she always looks much better when she leaves the city than when she arrives —the city 'beauticians' do improve one." Miss Beth Mackav, a mannequin, said: "Many city girls do look like iced cakes, and the majority of them, I think, do over-do make-up."
