ARBITRATION WORK
the second court NO EXTENSION OF TERM ————— * USE OF PRESIDENT'S SERVICES [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION^ WELLINGTON. Friday The term for which the Second Court of Arbitration was appointed is due to expire on November 22. In an interview this evening the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, said, it was not his present intention to continue with the Court after that date.
"Now that an industrial magistrate has been appointed the continuance of the Second Court of Arbitration should be unnecessary," said Mr. Armstrong. "The one Court and an industrial magistrate should be able to cope T\ith the business. I am given to understand that there is any amount of vey necessary work that the president of the second Court, Mr. Justice Hunter, can be engaged on when the Court goes out of existence." It is expected that Mr. Justice Hunter's services may be availed of for Appeal Board business or other judicial or semi-judicial work of a miscellaneous description.
The Second Court of Arbitration originally consisted of Mr. Justice Hunter as president, Mr. W. E. Anderson, as employers' member, and Mr. A. W. Croskerv, as workers' representative. The Court entered on its duties at Auckland on November 22, 1937. In February last Mr. Anderson intimated that he wished to retire and he was replaced by Mr. V. Duff. About two months ago Mr. Croskerv resigned his position, but he has continued his duties up to the present.
