LABOUR WEEK-END VARIETY OF FIXTURES EXODUS FROM THE CITY TRIPS BY RAIL AND ROAD Summer-time for many Aucklanders begins with the Labour Day week-end, in spite of the fact that daylight saving this year is already several weeks old, A wide variety of summer sporting fixtures has been arranged for the long week-end and in addition motorists and yachtsmen Avill be abroad in large numbers. Given fine weather, tho three-day vacation will be put to full advantage hy many motorists. Indeed, a number left last night for country districts north and south of Auckland, and many more will be setting out to-day. The Autoftiobilo Association (Auckland) reports that many motor-camper? intend having a week-end out of doors, some quite ambitious trips of from 300 to 400 miles having been planned. Country hotels are likely to be well patronised by travellers, and in addition there will be many trailer-caravans on the road. Trotting at Epsom Anglers who have been unable to get away from the city since the Auckland season opened will have the opportunity for a long week-end's fishing. Streams within comfortable reach of the city are likely to attract many rods, although itineraries supplied by the Automobile Association indicate that other parties intend travelling further afield to less-frequented water. Picnics and excursions have been planned by many people unable to leave town for the three days, and in addition there is a variety of attractions tor those who prefer to remain in the city. The Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting will commence to-day at Epsom and will be continued on Monday. The Waikato Hunt races will be held at Cambridge on Monday. Cricket and Other Sports

The cricket season will open to-day, when there will be two matches at Eden Park. A prominent South African professional golfer, *A. D. Locke, will play a challenge match, over 36 holes, against A. J. Murray, the Auckland professional, at Titirangi to-day. Threeday tournaments will commence to-day at Middlemore, Maungakiekie and Pupuke, and there will be further bowling and tennis club opening.

The annual Labour Day sports meeting at the Domain will take place on Monday. The golf tourneys will be continued and there will be a full series of senior championship cricket matches. An unusual feattire will be an Auckland v. Wellington baseball match at Blandford Park.

An exodus of holiday-makers from Auckland by rail began yesterday, when all passenger trains were crowded. An extra express train left for Wellington at 7.45 last night, half an hour after the limited express. In addition there was a special train for Rotorua at 11.45 last night. Special Train Arrangements

Three special trains will leave Auckland to-day and all have been heavily booked. The first will leave at 1.10 p.m. for National Park, making connections for Waitomo Caves and with a train for To Aroha. A second excursion train for Rotorua will leave Auckland at 1.25 this afternoon. Excursionists to Whangarei will travel on a special train leaving Auckland at 2.10 this afternoon. An extra express train left Wellington last night and will arrive here at 11.15 a.m. to-day.

For the benefit of those wishing to attend tho Waikato Hunt race meeting at Cambridge, an excursion train will leave Auckland on Monday at 6.55 a.m. The Railway Department has also decided to run a special express train to Taumarunui on Monday night, leaving Auckland at 7.35. At Taumarunui this train will connect with another for New Plymouth. Excursionists to Whangarei and Rotorua will return to Auckland on Monday night. Those visiting National Park will return on Tuesday morning.
