STATE FILM STUDIOS

GOVERNMENT PUBLICITY ADDITIONAL FACILITIES WORK ON CENTENNIAL PICTURE [by telegraph OWN correspondent] "WELLINGTON, Friday A new bujlding is being added to the Publicity Department's studios at Darlington Road, Miramar. Together with a.considerable quantity of new equipment, this represents a great advance in the facilities for film, poster and diorama production and will greatly facilitate the production of the centennial film, on which work is to begin shortly. . The building, which will be used as a display studio for poster and diorama work, will measure about 70ft. by 40ft. It will release the main studio in the old building for film purposes only, and will enable more elaborate studio work to be carried out, as is likely to be the case in the centennial film. In addition there are a new modern camera, sound recorder, sound printer and automatic developer, eliminating manual handling of the film. New 6tudio lighting is another improvement. The studios are now equipped with up-to-date technical apparatus, and their output is likely to be improved both in quality and quantity. Two new sound trucks, smartly painted blue and gold, and elaborately equipped, are going to be valuable in filming the scattered scenic spots from end to end of the Dominion, and in transporting the apparatus to the locations where various historical scenes are to be "shot" in the making of the centennial film. The prospecting of the country for possible locations is still in progress, but it is not expected to be long before filming begins. Much of the historical part of the film will be acted by New Zealand amateurs, and a great deal of interest will be roused" by the production. It is expected that most of the outdoor part of the film will be "shot" during the summer, leaving only the studio portion to complete it, after the best filming season is over.
