STOCKS AND SHARES

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE TURNOVER MAINTAINED With turnover maintained at a high level, there was little alteration in the general tone of the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Buyers still showed preference for overseas issues, but the tendency was'/ not as marked as prefiouslv. There was again a keen demand for both Government inscribed stock and local body debentures. Dominion hanks showed weakness. Nationals of New Zealand were marked down, while New Zealnnds had a heavy turnover on a falling market. Ia the first, sale since the election, Bouth British Insurance were taken 3s cheaper, where more were available. Weakness in New Zealand industrials was reflected in a drop in Northern Roller Milling. Farmers' Trading, however, showed a slight recovery. Among the Australian issues, investors operated freely in market leaders. The Exchange will bo closed on Monday, Labour Day.
