ROTORUA AERO CLUB

BUSINESSMEN INTERESTED FOUNDATION MEMBERS SOUGHT £by telegraph—OWN* correspondent] ROTORUA, Friday As the result of an enthusiastic public meeting last evening, a committee of businessmen was set up to discuss ways and means of forming an aero club in llotorua. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, who presided, said tfeat the time was opportune to make a move in this direction. There was still theoretically an aero club in Botorua, hut it had been forced out of active existenco owing to lack of support. Ho felt sure that if the public and all concerned gave the new project the support it deserved, the utmost success would be achieved. i The 'object of the club would bo training of enthusiasts to enable thorn to gain pilots' licences and not to form itself purely into a commercial body. Means of raising finance would bo similar to those adopted by the Hamilton club, said Mr. Jackson. Foundation members, at a proposed subscription of £lO per head, would bo sought. These foundation members would he business men in town not actively engaged in aviation pursuits. They would receive nothing in return for their money except the knowledge that they had assisted greatly in the advancement of aviation in the district. A rough estimate revealed that £IOOO would bo needed for the purchase of two aeroplanes. This, it was hoped, would be covered by 100 foundation members' donations. Mr. Jackson said that if the machines were bought from the Government a reduction would possibly ho secured. Other expenses, including instructors' and ground engineers' fees, would be met bv ordinary members' subscriptions. These expenses would probably amount to £7OO a year.
