SINKING OF TUG
FURTHER INQUIRY PLANNED HARBOUR BOARD'S INTENTION Apart from the recent investigation into the sinking of the tug To Awhina in the Auckland Harbour on August 11, the Auckland Harbour Board intends to conduct its OAvn inquiry into the circumstances surrounding tlio vessel's foundering. The mishap occurred when the tug was struck by one of the propellors of the motor-vessel Essex, which she was assisting to berth. A few minutes later the To Awhina sank off Hobson "Wharf. The chairman of the board, Mr. W. B. Darlow, said yesterday that the board's inquiry would probably take the form of a meeting of the board in committee. and any decision that was reached would be reported to the open board. He explained that the board had a good deal at stake and it was, therefore, vital in the interests of shipping, the merchants and tlio public that everything in connection with tlio board's operations should be at the highest point of efficiency. ]f there were any weaknesses they should at once bo rectified.
