HONEY MARKETING
DISCUSSION OF PROBLEMS MEETING HELD IN CAMERA PROPOSED NEW SYSTEM Aspects of honey marketing and a variety of associated problems were discussed by the Honey Control Board yesterday with Mr. F. R. Pieot, director of internal marketing. Tho meeting was held in camera. Those present included Mr. W. Nelson, chairman and Government representative on the board; Messrs. L. llobins and 11. Penny, producers' representatives; Mr. Picot; Mr. A. H. Honeyfield, Auckland representative of the Internal Marketing Division; and Mr. K. Dallas, director of horticulture.
A brief statement was made by Mr. Nelson to tho effect that the meeting was called for tho purpose of considering marketing problems generally, and also of discussing various resolutions passed at tho recent national conference of producers at Timaru and at other producers' meetings. Proposals discussed have already been approved by tho National Beekeepers' Conference. They were explained to that conference by Mr. Honyfield, who said that Auckland had been considered as tho locality for a central depot for the grading and packing of honey. Under tho proposed system, storing, receiving and delivery charges previously debited to tho producer would be avoided. It was hoped that the Department of Agriculture would grade honey weekly, thus avoiding double handling and making possible prompt cash advances by the division. It was also hoped that a journal, or part of the Journal of Agriculture, would be used in passing on requisite technical information to producers. Tho conference endorsed tho proposals and asked that the Government should put them into effect with tho least possible delay
