The official returns of the polls in November, 1935, show a total of 821,757 votes. Those recorded within each district numbered 775,852, of which 545,570 were against, and 230,282 for prohibition, the majority against prohibition being 315,288. Absentee votes comprised 33,096 against, and 12,809 for prohibition, the adverse majority being 20,287. The aggregate majority was, therefore, 335,575. The returns by licensing districts so far, as available when the count ceased at midnight, are shown in detail below, with, for comparison, the official returns of the previous poll. . # # Since 1935 a revision of electoral boundaries has eliminated two districts, Chalmers and Oroua, and created two new ones, Otahuhu and Wellington West. Parnell, Manukau and Wairau have, been renamed Remuera, Onehunga and Marlborough, respectively.
