Exacting Cycle Trial

SKEATES CUP CONTEST FURTHER EVENTS ARRANGED An extremely exacting road trial for tho Skentes Cup was conducted from Dargaville last Sunday by the Northern Wairou Motor-Cycle Club, three Auckland competitors taking part. Ihe morning course of 22 miles, included n run of six miles, across open scrub country. wliero ritlers followed any track thev fancied. A remarkable feature of the contest was that no rider was moro than four or live minutes late on n schedule calling for an average speed of MO miles an hour.

A section of 78 miles was traversed in the afternoon, the course leading from Dargavillo through To Kopuru and Tangnihi toward Kaipara Heads and including every type of road surface. T!io return journey followed a long detour toward the coast around Red Hill and Aratapu. A 30-niile-an-hour schedule tfas again required, nnd. all hough no watches or speedometers were allowed, few competitors finished more than 10 minutes too soon or too late. Tho results were as follows: —A. Leacli, 500 c.c. Matchless, lost 7 points, 1; H. Battv, 500 c.c. 8.5.A., points, 2; (J. Bell, .'WO c.c. Vclocette, 10 points. 3; C. Keefe, 350 c.c, Velocctte, 11 points, 4. C. H. Brindle, of Auckland, took a wrong turning and lost 10 points for missing a check. Tile Auckland Motor-Cycle Club will hold a novice trial, starting at 9.30 from tho clubrooms to-morrow morning. The event will bo open to any lider, and a special award will be made for tho best performance by one who has never previously won a trial. The club will also conduct a reliability trial tomorrow, starting at 10 o'clock. All motor-cyclists are invited to attend, and particular attention will bo paid to all traffic signs. The first race meeting of the season will be held at Muriwai on Sunday. November 6. The Aucklnnd Road Safety Committee will hold a special trial on Saturday*.-
