STUART REBELLION

A FRESH VIEWPOINT The evergreen story of " Bonnie Prince Charlie " is revived in Mr. Norman Sadd's " Diplomacy Versus Courage," a book that will have deep appeal 1o those who enjoyed the O'Callaghan history of the Stuart regiments nerving under the banners of France. The author presents a new perspective; of the varied influences that played about the Jacobite cause and, quite frankly, discards many of tho accepted facts of history, While portraying the Highland characters, he presents contrasts between the chivalry of some of the clan leaders and the greed and jealousy of others, dissension that cost the cause so much support. That he should conclude with a spirited defence of the Stuart claim to tlie throne is no surprise; the trend of the historical narrative leads up to that, but he certainlv brings out a new angle of view in his description of the moneyed interests that opposed tho Young Pretender for their own financial and political ends. Mr. Sadd has contributed to New Zealand lists a book well worth reading. " Diplomacy Versus Courage," by Norman Rndd. (Auckland Printing and Publishing Company.)
