r HOTELS and clubs SETTLED BY AGREEMENT WAGES MADE RETROSPECTIVE HOURS AND HOLIDAYS FIXED In both the New Zealand private hotel employees' award and the New Zealand chattered club employees' award, which were issued by the Court 0 f Arbitration yesterday, complete agreement wi.s reached between the parties in Conciliation Council with the exception of the date of coming into force of t'" 1 awards. The new wages are to come into force as from September 5, and the remainder of the award is to be in force as from October 10 for one year. The private Hotel employees' award covers ali private hotels, accommodation houses and hoarding houses that provide accommodation for five or more lodgers. The hours of work are not to exceed 41 weekly and not more than eight in one day and four on the weekly half-holiday. An 11 hours' 1 break is provided between one day's work and the next. Scale of Wages In addition to special holidays, employees afe to be allowed one week and two days' holiday on full pay on completion of 12 months' continuous service. The scale of wages for chief cooks Taries from £5 10s where six or more hands are employed to £3 7s, where two are employed for males, and from £4 16s 6d to £'2 18s 6d for females. Seoond cook's wages run from £4 to £2 14s 6d for males, and from £3 9s to £2 2s 6d for females. Where only one is employed the rate is £2 14s 6d for males and £2 6s for females. Dining room waiters are to receive £3 2s, and head waitresses £1 18s 6d, waitresses, housemaid-waitresses, housemaids, pantrymaids and relieving maids, £1 los. Special rates are laid down for casual labour and for special occasions as at racecourses and ballrooms. Where board is not provided the employee is to be paid £1 a week additional. Club Employees The chartered club employees' award provides the/ same working hours and overtime rate as mentioned above, but an annual holiday of two weeks on full pay is allowed. The wages of cooks are on the same scale as for the private hotels. Chief stewards are to be paid £6 and second stewards £5 5s where more than 14 of a staff are employed, and the rate is decreased by stages to £5 for the chief steward and £4.10s for the second where the total staff is from four to six. In residential clubs where board is provided wages may be reduced by £1 a week. Casual labour and special occasions are provided for under many sub-clauses.
