PROFESSIONAL BOXING

WIN FOR YOUNG GILDO [BY TF.T.F.OKAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON, Thursday In a professional light-weight boxing contest scheduled for 10 rounds at the Wellington Town Hall to-night, Young Gildo, 9st. 41b., proved too fast and clever for Jack Jarvis, 9st. 31b. Gildo was at his best, showing neat footwork throughout. He punished his opponent severely in the sixth round and continued this in the seventh, at the end of which Jarvis, who had shown much gameness, withdrew. A second professional contest over eight rounds between Fred Finnigan and Joe Handen, both of Wellington, was one of the most stirring bouts seen here for some years. The pair were evenly matched and it was only his fighting spirit which earned Finnigan the verdict.
