SCHOOLS COMPETITION PRESENTATION OF PRIZES INTERESTING PROGRAMME A most interesting programme had been arranged b.v Madame L. Allen and members of the Auckland French Club's conversation class at the monthly meeting of the club held on Monday night. Mr. G. S. Coldham presided over a good attendance o members. Items included songs by Miss Porter and Miss K. Buchanan, pianoforte solos by Miss M. Simm, pianoforte ducts by Mrs. W. McKinney and Mrs. W. S. Clark, and French recitations by Mine. L. Allen, Mile. R. Francis and Mile. S. L'rancis. The speaker for the evening, Miss K. Kenned# gave a most humorous address in French on " Women in Politics." The subject wits treated in mock-serious stylo which kept the audience much amused. Part of the evening was devoted to community singing of French songs under the leadership of Madame Allen, assisted by Mrs. W. S. Clark at the piano. This innovation was much appreciated. During the evening the prizes won at the club's annual competition for ■pupils of secondary schools in French dictation, conversation and reading, were presented by the president. The recipients wore: —Prizes: John A. Asher (Auckland Grammar School), 1; Gloria E. Mulvihill (Auckland Girls' Grammar School), 2. Certificates of merit: Joan D. Llovdd (Auckland Girls' Grammar School), Agnes M. Anderson (Epsom Girls' Grammar School), and Winifred M. Stanton (Diocesan High School). The programme concluded with the presentation of a one-act comedy, "L'Extra," which proved highly entertaining. Parts were taken bv Misses B. Drummond and It. Francis, and Messrs. N. B. Body, B. I. Fulton, H. W. James, R. G. Coklham, A. A. Watson and W. K. T. Fowler.
