MILE BY BEAUPARTIR . - L - i — « LAUGHING LASS PLEASES, EXERCISES AT AWAPUNI [by telegraph.—ows correspondent] PALMEBSTON NORTH, Tuesday The Awapuni course recovered quickly from heavy rain and the going was comparatively fast this morning. The best effort was that of Beaupartir over a mile, but others to please were The Buzzer and Tidewaiter, Laughing Lass and Florence Mills. With tbe flags in the middle of the course, the horses were required to cover much extra ground. Beaupartir had The Crooner as a companion. Down the wind, they ran three furlongs in 38 3-os, the half-mile in 51 4-ss, and, with Beaupartir half a length in front, they turned for home to record 1.48 for the mile. Beaupartir finished very smoothly.

The Buzzer had the better of the weights with Tidewaiter, but there was never much between them over seven furlongs in 1.34, the first three in 39 3-ss. '

Laughing Lass sprinted five furlongs, and she could have improved upon 1.5. She ran the first quarter in 24 4-5s and finished strongly.

Florence Mills recorded the best time of the morning over fivo furlongs, taking 1.4 2-5, the first three being completed in 38s. Surmount was not troubled in running the distance in 1.6 and he should bo in good order for Trentham. •<

Another good gallop was that of Thrasos and Ecstatic. Cutting out the first three in 375, they went on to complete in 1.5 3-5, going comfortably ai the finish. Thrasos is much improved. Silver River, who looks a fit horse, sprinted the last three of nine furlongs in 40 3-ss. Pas do Cheval ran an easy five furlqngs. Vadanoe worked over a mile. Cliere Amio covered three furlongs well in 395.

Oratory worked on the plough, speeding over three furlongs, in 38s. She is very well and ia not far from her top form. .

Golden Ridge and Lady Ina ran half a mile in 52 3-ss. Old Surrey drew right away from Sudan at the end of a mile, run in 1.50 3-5. It is possible that Old Surrey is in better order than he has over been before. Rarotongfc strode over a mile, the last two furlongs taking 28s. Old Bill came home strongly to run the last five of teix furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Millament and the daughter of Barbacan stretched out boldly over half a mile in 53 3-ss. White Gold ran the same distance in 525. the last three taking 395. Porotiti (W. J. McDowell) and Boiling Home (W. E. Pine'* gave a good exhibition over four hurdles. Sporting Luck (Pine) jumped four hurdles brilliantly.

TURF JOTTINGS TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Konneta's fine-showing in the Welcome Stakes has encouraged her trainer. R. S. Bagby, to make the trip to Trentnam next week with the speedy Bulandshar filly, who is engaged in the Wellesloy Stakes on the first day of tho Wellington Racing Club'p Spring Meeting next Thursday. In a schooling bout at Ellerslie yesterday morning School Song (Gough) and Baldric (O'Connor) gavo a sound and fast display of jumping over four hurdles.
