QUEEN CARNIVAL
HOWICK SCHOOL EVENT MORE THAN £4OO RAISED The crowning of the East Taniaki queen, Miss Moreen Allen, in the Monterey Theatre, Howick, on Wednesday night, brought to ft successful conclusion the Howick District High School Queen Carnival. Miss Allen won by a large majority from Miss Audrey Hancock, the Pakuranga and Buckland's Beach queen. The other competitors were Miss Joan Owen, representing Howick, and Miss Daphfto Grainger, Whitford. ■ • ■ ■■■ Tho carnival was organised to raise £4OO for the school funds, this amount being exceeded by x £2O. Tho , headmaster, Mr. F. C. Day, expressed appreciation . of the success of . the collec-. tivo efforts of tho respective committees and said, the financial results would fully liquidate tho remaining debt on the radio equipment, and benefit nil school activities. Mr. Day thanked all who had interested themselves in tho carnival. * t Mr. "VV. J. Camnbell. chairman of the Auckland Education Board, congratulated Mr. Day, the school committee and the pupils of tho school on the successful result of tho carnival.
