NEW POTASH FIELDS
CALIFORNI AN SALT LAKE EVAPORATION FROM BRINE Prior to the Great War, Strassfurt, in Germany, had practically the only deposit of potash being worked on u great commercial scale. Since that time, however, it has been discovered that the desert-bounded Searles Lake at Trond, in California, has somewhat similar deposits. By drilling wells into tho dry lake bed, a strong brine is secured, rich in potassium as well as sodium salts.
The mining, pumping, drilling and evaporation processes here have led to the establishment of a small town of close on 2000 workers.
As an auxiliary product the brino produces 40 per cent of the world's requirements of borax and boracic acid, together with substantial amounts of soda ash and salt cake.
