MARIE'S ACRE PLEASES SOUND SIX WITH PHILCOURT GAY SON DISPLAYS DASH Smart sprints by Philcourt, Marie's Acre, Gay Son and Oriental Bay, and sound efforts over a round by the Mitchelson Clip candidates Kilonsa, Francis Drake and Shy, were 'features of. the gallops at • Ellerslie yesterday morning. The last seven furlongs were run in 1.35 4-5, and half a milo in 54 3-5sJ Kilonsa did her work well -and should lack nothing on the score l of condition for 'hor Mitchelson Cup engagement on Saturday. ' ■; Fleetwind (Tonks) was travelling well, within herself whilo running five furlongs. in 1.7, the last three in 40 '4-ss, After taking 13s-for the first, furlong,, Kelly (Gilchrist) completed half a mile in 51 4-ss. Ho finished in great style; anil has rarely been better. After rei fusing to move off for some time, Land Girl (Stokes) was timed Ato run the last five of six furlongs in 1.8 1-5. Mai de Mer and .Vaalsstar - Mai de, Mer. .('Wiggins) appeared to be travelling better than Vaalsstar ..(Gilchrist) at tlio conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.35.1-5, tho first three in. 39 4-ss, Bronze Emerald (Hearne), and Bohriybelle (Tremnin) finished on;torms at tho end of half a mile in 54 2-ss. Both could have improved oh the effort. Bright Idea (Buchanan) 7 and Avail (Kerr) easily completed the last five of six furlongs in 1.12. V ' v' - Ohmaha (Murray) comfortably 1 beat Knightsbridge (Messervy);: and Konspeckle (Mclnally.) over, .six furlongs in 1.22, tho first three being run, ; in 395. Ohmaha is working well. ' Electrio Sp6ar (Stokes) finished just in front of .Tip Toes (Tremain), with To Mar an ui (Cammipk) several lengths back, at the conclusion of five furlongs in, 1.7, the last three taking 40 4-ss. Electric Spear's latest "efforts nave bebn very promising. 'Tip Toes went' freely without; being required to > do her best. Valmint (Wiggins) was travelling comfortably while running a mile in 1.53 4-5. the last six furlongs in 1.26 1-5. The two-year-olds Konneta (Markwick), Tableau (Messervy), La Vie (Gilchrist) and High Caste (Wiggins) were, associated over half ■ a mile in 51 4-ss, the first furlong being run in 12 l-ss. The improving High . Caste finished slightly in front of Konneta, with Tableau and La Vie two lengths back. The Trimmer (Tucker) displayed dash by beating Summary (Simon) over five furlongs in 1.8. Valspear (Tremain) went laziily over six furlongs in 1.23. Sly Fox (Mclnally) ran the last five of Seven furlongs in 1.7 3-5. '''■"% Royal Abb (Wiggins) was going comfortably alongside Garnos (Coon) at the end of half a mile in 53 4-ss. Royal Abb moved freely and is making pleasing progress. Birthday Boy (Markwick) was going easily to register 1.25 2-5 for six furlongs, the last three taking 42 2-ss. Valdene (Wiggins) shaded Prival (Walker) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.21, the last three in 38s. Valdene worked with plenty of dash and looks improved after her recent racing. ' * After beginning slowly, Armacourt (Gilchrist) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. She did not appear to hit out with .her usual freedom.

Round by Francis Drake The best six furlongs .the morning was credited to Marie's Acre (Wiggins) and Philcourt (Gilchrist), who finished practically on terms two lengths ahead of Triljiarch (Messervy) in 1.18 4-5. The first three furlongs were -run in 39s and it was a smart effort. Marie's Acre finished strongly and is much improved since r Avondaleiiv Philcourt ■ stayed on well and looks in great .trim for his Guineas engagement on Saturday. . . ! ■ 'J . '. ■ * Francis Drake (Wiggins):: was responsible for the best round in record-: ing 2.10 1-5, the last six furlongs being run in 1.23 1-5 and four in 55 3-ss. He moved a trifle scratchy 'and an easier track might enhance his' prospectß. A Captain Bruce (Hearne) ? was, not required to do' his, best while . covering seven furlongs in 1.40. Erination (Jenkins) was timed to run the last seven furlongs of his work in 1.45. . Coronation (Wiggins) was going well within himself while travelling six furf. longs in' 1:21 j the last three furlongs in :40s. Ho looks.bright but may require time to reach his. best. Boy Lu (Messervy) sprinted three furlongs in 40 4-ss. - - ' / Shy ■ (Messervy) encompassed a round in 2.11 1-5, the last seven furlongs in 1.36 1-5 and four in 54 l-ss. Shy, who looks none the worse for his race at Paeroa, moved freely and came home in good style. , V Smart Hall-mile . Having his first sprint after a letup, Oriental Bay (Gilchrist) displayed speed by getting to the end' of half a mile in 51 l-ss, the last threo furlongs in 395. It; Was the thalt distance and Oriental Bay is bearing an improved appearance. v Alyth (Wigging) Tan three furlongs comfortably in 39 4#s. She appears to have made a complete recovery from her recent soreness and is expected to fulfil her engagement at the forthcoming meeting.. , „ '■ On -the No. 3 grass, Surella (Wiggins) was not troubled to run the last throe furlongs of half a mile in 39 3-6s, Assisted by Hackenschmidt (Murray) over the last half-mile, School Song (Gilchrist) finished well clear or Baldric (Tremain) at the. conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. King Mugk; (Ritchie) was seen to better advantage , than Lighter ( (Fergus) in a schooling bout over four hurdles. ■/< • ' ' - i ' Commencing. at the seven-furlong post, Electric Flash (Stokes) went onqe round over the steeplechase course negotiating seven fences in all.. , She gave a good exhibition and was running on solidly at the end. Starting at the sod wall at the t9p of the' straight, Salon (Williams) and British Sovereign (Walters) cleared the first four fences-in company, but the latter came to grief at the fence near the mile post. Salon continued on alono to jump tho remaining two; on top of the. hand and finish tip his task by coming home strongly up" the straight on the course proper. Salon gave a faultless 'display and drew attention to his prospects on Saturday. King Rod (Fergus) jumped well over the steeplechase fences on the flat.
