Herd, of Wellington, has teen 'appointed Crown law officer in Samoa for, the next three years. Mr. Herd ha£ positions ranging from that of a teacher of English in Sweden to that of secretary to a famous London theatrical producer. Accompanied by his wife and small sou, Mr. Herd left Wellington by tho Maui Pomare for Samoa yesterday. Born near Northampton, England, in 1000, Mr. Herd came to New Zealand with his parents at the age of six. He was educated at the Levin High School, the Hastings High School, and at Victorih University College, where he took his law degree. Mr. Herd practised as a solicitor with his brother in Wellington for several years, but left for England in 1932. He was connected l with various theatrical enterprises in London, and later travelled extensively on the Continent. Returning to New Zealand at the end* of last year, Mr. Herd was appointed transcription officer to the Commercial Broadcasting Service in January. ~ ' ; ' . , ...
