MIDDLE-WEIGHT BOXING
TITLE-HOLDER DEFEATED VICTORY FOR C." HANHAM [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION"] TIMARU, Thursday In a contest for the. middle-weight professional boxing championship tonight G. Allan, of Gisborne, the holder of the title, was -defeated by C. Hanham, of Waimate. The pair met' recently, when the judges gave the decision to Allan, although the crowd thought Hanham won. To-night the fight was not lively until the closing stages,, when Allan forced the pace to make up leeway. The 11th round saw the pair fighting solidly, with Hanham getting the better of tha exchanges. In the final round Hanham landed a hard right to the jaw. sending Allan through the ropes. He came-'liStk''" groggy and Hanham inflicted heavy punishment, winning by a good margin.
BOUTS AT WELLINGTON JOE FRANKLIN DISQUALIFIED [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Thursday A disappointment was in store for followers of boxing at the Wellington Town Hall to-night when the professional boxing contest between Clarne Rayner, of Blenheim, New Zealand light-weight champion, and Joe Franklin, of Gisborne, lakted less than four The champion opened confidently and had his opponent on the defensive tor the first three rounds. In the fojirtn round Franklin was warned for hitting after being ordered to break, and ® little later when the pair were m J} clinch near the ropes Rayner collapsea to the mat and;Ahe referee, Mr. Man Maxwell, disqualified -Franklin an awarded the contest to Rayner.
