BAYFIELD SCHOOL

PLANS FOR JUBILEE DISCUSSION OF PROPOSALS A proposal to hold a jubilee celebration in commemoration of the opening of the Bayfield School at Heme Bay was discussed at a meeting in the school pavilion last night, when there was a large attendance of the members of the Teachers' and Parents' Association and old pupils of the school. Mr. G. S. Bullen, who presided, welcomed Mr. W. J. Campbell, chairman of the Education Board, Mr. R. Rew. a member of the board, Mr. S. Bennett, chairman, and Mr. S. deal, secretary of the Ponsonby Schools' Committee, who had all taken a keen interest in the affairs of the school. A cordial welcome also was extended to Miss F. E. Thompson, who was for many years infant mistress at Bayfield Mr. D. Mclnness, headmaster, said that the school was opened in ISS6 and many old pupils had expressed a desire that a jubilee celebration should be held in the near future. A suggestion was made that any celebration would be more fitting when a new school was built on the splendid site, opposite the present school, wbich was acquired about 18 years ago by the Education Board. This suggestion, however, did not meet with approval, and it was unanimously decided to hold a jubilee reunion of the old pupils early next year. The meeting resolved itself into ;v general committee and a sub-committee was set up to get in touch with old pupils who will be invited to attend a meeting in the Bayfield Mission Hall toward the end of October to make arrangements for the proposed function.
