Wild Chase and Defaulter were companions in an attractive gallop over six furlongs in 1.15. From a moving start, they ran the first two in 25s and came home the last four in 50s. Defaulter, ridden by C. T. Wilson, was not asked for any extra effort and appeared to be going very easily. On the other hand. Wild Chase, with G. Humphries in the saddle, had to be kicked up twice in the run home. Defaulter finished half a length in front. It was Defaulter's first serious gallop this season and one of the best efforts seen on the course for some time. Wild Chase has been galloping exceptionally well, but his young rival had bint struggling most of the way. Adina finished more strongly than Pilot's Love at the end of five furlongs, run 111 1.6 2-5. Song Boy left half a mile behind in 51 2-ss. Moneyless broke away in front of Janet Gaynor at tho seven-furlong post and led her by four lengths along the back, but Janet Gaynor got on terms in the straight and they finished together. Janet Gaynor ran seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, and Moneyless six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Pink Robe, Hanlon and Valantua began at the milo post, and they ran in close company, with Valantua showing the way to the straight. Hanlon then closed up and finished with Valantua in 1.46 2-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.32 2-5, and the first half-mile 535. Pink Robe was a little over a length away, but none of the trio was ridden out. Eire's Ruin, Palmar and Night Scout galloped half a milo on the grass next the rails, finishing together. Avenal ran half a mile in 545. Roseman and Our Pal covered five furlongs in 1.4. Araboa and Hunting Chorus went six furlongs 011 tho grass in a strong working gallop. Violonta, from a slow start, k printed five furlongs in 1.4 l-o, and six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. High Glee sprinted five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. The colt by Gustavo—Pink Terrace, Janefield, by Gustavo —Bonny Lake, and .1 filly by Philamore —Soldier's Fancy, were schooled at the barrier. The Pink Terrace colt shaped best, and led Janefield to the straight, whore he was pulled up. . Vantoon (J. Richards) shaped well 111 a school over three hurdles. W. E. Handcock, after wintering Traverina, Valmarch and others of his team at Timaru, has returned to Wingatui. Miss Tidal was going away from Tahiti at the end of half a mile in 50 2-ss. King Silver. Spearford and Te Monoplane were in the order named at the end of live furlongs in 1.5. Gold Vaals and Chikara did strong work, the former striding out nicely. Maereana pleased better than Forlorn over five furlongs. Wasp (Gilmer), after baulking once, jumped 10 fences in good style.
