COMPROMISE

Sir, —Germany is in a dilemma, for war means the impoverishment of Europe if the five great Powers are involved —and Hitler knows this. Now is the time to make a proposition that should satisfy all parties. Let the friendly nations raise an international loan for Czechoslovakia (a job for the League of Nations) and buy out the Sudetens, lock, stock and barrel, and add this fringe of territory inside the mountains definitely to Czechoslovakia. It is obvious that so long as these Sudetens are in close proximity to the Czechoslovakians there will always be the danger of repercussions. It will be a largo sum of money, but currency sppaks with an eloquent tongue and harmony will then be restored in Europe. J. A. Burnett.
