OBITUARY

MR. DAVID SCOTT The death has occurred at Otahuhu of Mr. David Scott, aged 72, a former officer of the Salvation Army. Born in Fifcshiro. Scotland, Mr. Scott arrived in the Dominion in 1883 and settled in the Oamaru district, where he followed farming for a few years. From an early age he was associated with the Salvation Army and was one of the pioneers of the movement in several districts in the South Island after becoming an established officer at Temuka. 111-health caused Mr. Scott to resign his commission in the Salvation Army over 30 years ago, and be was subsequently engaged in commercial work in the Auckland district.. When lie retired about three years ago he was employed in the office' of the Westfield Freezing Company, Limited. Mr. Scott was a keen worker in the Masonic movement, and ho was a past master in the Waitemata lodge, for which he was also secretary for many years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons.

Arnold Ward, and younger daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Goodall. She was GO years of age. Mrs. Ward, who was born on the West Coast of the South Island, married Colonel Ward at Tadmor, Nelson, 45 years ago, and came to Tauranga, where she had lived ever since. For many years, Mrs. Ward was prominently identified with social and public activities in Tan rant; a and during the Great War she was one of the leaders in patriotic work. In recognition of her services she was made a member of the Order of the British Kmpire. Mrs. Ward was also associated with many other organisations concerned with the welfare and advancement of Tauranga. She was a member of the supervising committee of the military cemetery and controlled the planting and beautifying work there. She is survived by one son.
