ELLERSLIE COMPLAINTS PARTIES AT MASONIC HALL DISTURBANCE TO NEIGHBOURS Complaints about the conduct of parties at the Ellerslie Masonic Hall were received by the Ellerslie Borough Council last night from residents in the vicinity of the.. building. Letters referred to a party held recently and stated that patrons spent most of their time outside the hall up to 2 a.m. and disturbed the neighbours. Stones were thrown on the roof of at least one house in the early hours of the morning, and motor-cars were driven into the grounds at all times in the evening. Neighbours had made repeated complaints for years and the police had also been notified. It wa» contended that neighbours were justified in requesting that the hall be closed on the grounds of "a constant public nuisance" and "incompetent administration." Several members said the complaints were well founded. An unruly noise was frequently created and property had been interfered with. Mr. S. Pemberton said he could not agree that the administration was lax. From personal knowledge he had found the owners of the hall were very strict and vetoed liquor being taken into the hall. It was decided that, as the complaints had alsp been sent to the police, the owners of the hall be acquainted with the grievances.
