POTATO EXPORTS
STABILISING PRICES CARGO FOR SOUTH AMERICA FURTHER SHIPMENT IF NEEDED [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHTTRQH, Tuesday A statement that the shipment waa filling well was made by the Director of the Internal Marketing Department, Mr. F. R. Picot, when questioned concerning the for the completion of the proposed cargo of 3000 tons of Red Dakota potatoes from Canterbury to be shipped by the Port Melbourne to Montevideo. Mr. Picot said merchants were giving every assistance to fill the quota. Whether another shipment would follow was dependent on the quantity oi; potatoes offering. "Another shipment will be made if it is required," he said. Asked if the export had been effective in stabilising the local price at £3 a ton, Mr. Picot said it had had the expected effect, and the local market had firmed. It could be said that the local price hag been stabilised.
