MAORI CHILD DROWNS
FAIL INTO A STEEAM TRAGIC END TO SEARCH DISCOVERY BY BROTHER [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Tuesday A Maori child, Elizabeth Dorothy Moki, aged 21 months, -was drowned at Murupara lato yesterday afternoon when, after wandering away from her home, she apparently fell into a small stream. In evidence given at the inquest held to-day, the mother, Aporina Moki, stated that she had left her little daughter playing outside the house at 3.50 p.m., but a few minutes later she discovered that the child was missing. A search by herself and her son resulted in the son finding the body lying in about 2ft. of water, face downward, in the stream. Artificial respiration, which was carried out by the district nurse, Miss A. Orbell, for about an hour and a-half, proved unavailing. The coroner, Mr. W. L. Richards, returned a verdict of accidental death from drowning.
