ROTORUA PROSECUTION TROUT SAID TO BE GIFT BENCH IMPOSES FINE OF £2 [by TELEGRAPH —OWN cokkesfoxdent] ROTORUA, Thursday For taking trout out of season from tho Rotoehu Stream, Norman William Lucas, of Auckland, was convicted and fined £2 in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court to-day. The defendant pleaded not guilty, and submitted the defence that, while walking along the bank of the stream, he had been offered the fish by two young men who were unknown to him. He said that when accosted by two rangers lie was merely holding the fish. The Bench stated when entering a conviction that, although the defendant's breach might have been an innocent one, he was nevertheless guilty under tho regulations.
