BOXING RING

BOUTS FOR EMPIRE TITLE M. STRICKLAND'S POSITION [from oun owx ronnicsroNUKNT] LONDON, August 18 News has been received in London that Maurice Strickland, the New Zealand heavy-weight boxer, will return at an early date from America in order to meet Larry Gains in a final elimination bout for the British Empire title. In view of this the Board of Control has decided that for the present it will not ask the promoters to submit purse offers for the match, and will extend the time allowed the boxers and managers to fix up the contest themselves. As a result there is a firm impression in London that the proposed bout between Strickland and Farr, in Toronto, has lost some of its appeal, since Farr has been relieved of his titles, and the contest will not be recognised as far as the Umpire <Jiampionship is concerned. It is believed likely that Farr and Strickland will not now meet in Toronto, and that Farr will also return to London shortly. At least two attractive fights await Strickland in London.
