MEETING WITH HITLER

PREMIER LEAVES TO-DAY CONFERENCE ON THE RHINE IMPATIENCE OF GERMANY (Received September 21, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 21 :• An official statement from Downing Street says that Mr. Chamberlain and Herr Hitler will meet at Godesberg on Thursday at 3 p.m. (Friday, 1.30 a.m., New Zealand time.) Accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, and a large staff, Herr Hitler left Munich by train late last night for Godesberg, where he will await Mr. Chamberlain, who is again to make the journey from London by air to-morrow. Godesberg is decorated with swastika flags and Union Jacks.

The programme for Mr.' Chamberlain's visit includes a boat trip oil the, Rhine, on which it is proposed to hold the conversations to ensure secrecy. Police boats will patrol the river. A detachment of the Gestapo (secret police) has arrived at Godesberg from Berlin to guard Herr Hitler's hotel. .High German officials at Godesberg declare no time can be allowed for further discussion or reflection upon the Anglo-, French plan, says the correspondent of the Daily Mail. They say Herr Hitler will not wait more than a week before resorting to independent forcible action against Prague, for which preparations have been completed, and the lateness of the season makes further delay impossible. Unofficially, says the British United Press, it is learned that the German armies are ready to march on Thursday evening.
