CARE BY AUXILIARY PROGRESS IN PAST YEAR REPORTS TO ANNUAL MEETING The formation of two now committees. one at the Wilson Home for Crippled Children and the other to take care of tuberculosis patients, was reported at the annual meeting of the. Auckland Hospital Auxiliary yesterday afternoon. The past president, Mrs. Alfred Kidd, presided. There was a large attendance of members and also present were Mrs. A. D. Campbell, president of tho auxiliary; Dr. .T. W. Craven, medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital; and Mr. E. H. Potter, a member of the Hospital Board. Bouquets wore presented to Mrs. Kidd, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs, Allan Moody, Mrs. Craven and Miss E. M. Nutsev, lady superintendent of the Auckland Hospital. Need for Organisation The annual report stated that although unemployment had decreased the need for the auxiliary had become greater than ever, the sick poor of the city relying more and more upon it t-i help them and their families in time of illness. Especially was this help called for to assist people to regain their strength after leaving the hospital. As the hospital grew, so would this responsibility increase. The continued support of tho Mayor and Mayoress, Sir Ernest and Lady Davis, in obtaining grants from tho Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Fund and of tho Government for a grant from the art union funds were gratefully acknowledged. Two street collections during the year had realised a total of £.'536 as tho auxiliary's portion. This was not considered satisfactory, stated the report, and as the feeling against street collections was growing, it was hoped that some other method of raising funds would bo devised. The total receipts showed a balance of £'loß over the expenditure, and as the expenditure had increased by over £2OO on the previous year, tho Jinaneial position was considered satisfactory. Distribution of Clothing The report of the depot showed that 1779 patients had been assisted with clothing during the year. Food orders were issued to 678 patients and 1-15 had been assisted with fares to enable them to attend the hospital for treatment. The children in the isolation ward had been given clothing, and many patients had been supplied with new footwear. A total of 2288 garments had been made for the depot by the sewing circle, while a speciaj donation of 389 garments had been made by this circle to St. Helens Hospital. The co-operation of tho district nurses was much appreciated by the auxiliary, while thanks were also expressed to tho women's institutes who ,stijl. continued to give valuable- assistance by making and supplying garments. The Nurses' Home committee had knitted .796...garments from wool supplied by the auxiliaryj while the nurses had also supplied 496 secondhand garments for distribution. The tuberculosis after-care committee, which, under the convenorship of .Airs. A. Smith -Gray, had been organised only three months ago, had done much valuable work among the tubercular patients in the hospital and shelters. The canteen had been in operation for a year, the report continued, and had fully justified its inauguration. Branch reports were read by tho various convenors and all showed excellent progress in tho work undertaken. Election of Officers In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Potter expressed the hope that the Government would continue its- grant to the auxiliary from the art union fund. He said it'was to be hoped that nothing in the present legislation would interfere with the auxiliary, other than by assisting it.
