SPRING FLOWERS

SHOW AT WELLINGTON OPENED BY LORD GALWAY FINE DISPLAY OF BLOOMS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Wednesday jThe colour and fragrance of thousands of beautiful flowers transformed the Town Hall into a garden yesterday, when the Wellington Horticultural Society hold its spring flower show. The function was officially opened bvj the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, who was accompanied by Viscountess Galway. In attendance was Lieutenant S. R. le H. LombardHobson, A.D.C. * Their Excellencies were met by the president, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, and conducted to the stage. Lady Galway wore a black wool suit buttoned to the neckline and worn with a rope of pearls, a silver fox fur and black e 't hat. The Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, wore a black tailored coat with collar, of black Persian lamb and small black hat. Mrs. iynox Gilmer was in a black tailored costume with white satin tucked blouse, black hat and furs. As the vice-regal party took their seats, a sn'iall girl presented His Excellency with a carnation buttonhole and Lady Galway with a bouquet of pink carnations, tulips and hyacinths. After .His Excellency had formally declared the flower show open he inspected the exhibits, accompanied by Lady Galway, after which Their Excellencies were entertained at afternoon tea. The opening ceremony was attended by a representative and crowded gathering. Many smart ensembles worn by the women guests displayed the new season's colours, which harmonised with the floral background. Furs were worn, especially the popular eaj>e, and hats displayed elaborate trimmings of veiling and flowers. ,
