CONSTABLE'S DEATH
MB. W. F. MALLABOND THREE DAYS AFTER MOTHER THIRD FAMILY BEREAVEMENT After a brief illness, Constable Francis William Mallabond, of 3 Lake Road, Devonport, died at the Auckland Hospital early yesterdaj' morning, at the ago of of). He had been stationed at Devonport sinco 1933. Early last week he contracted influenza and had to relinquish his duties for i few days, but spent most of his sick leave in caring for his mother. She died on Sunday at the age of 91, and that night Mr. Mallabond became ill and was obliged to go to bed. His condition became worse, and on Tuesday night he was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital. Pneumonia supervened, and he died at 3.-15 o'clock yesterday morning. His death is the third that lias occurred in the family within a few weeks, the first being that of a brother-in-law, the late Mr. George Harnett:, of Devonport, formerly Government fruit inspector at Auckland, which took place on August 5. Constable Mallabond joined the New Zealand Police Force 22 years ago at Auckland. After a period of duty in the city ho went to Devonport, whence ho was transferred to Potorua. H« spent several years there before being transferred back to Devonport in 1933. A full police funeral will be accorded him this afternoon, and the interment will take place at Purewa Cemetery. Constable Mallabond leaves a widow and one child.
