CONCESSIONS FROM STATE DEPUTATION TO MINISTER .4 [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN" COIIRESPONDKNT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday A request; for assistance for the St. John Ambulance Association in its relations with the Public Works Department was made by a deputation which waited on the Minister of Public Works, the Hon, R. Semple, at Hawcra. The points raised were not confined in their application'to the Hawera district, but affected the whole Dominion.

Public recognition of the association by the department, the reimbursement by the Treasury of amounts paid by Public Works Department employees to gain their first-aid certificates and concession rates for Public Works Department employees and all St. John Ambulance Brigade men travelling to firstaid competitions by train were sought.

"I am fully conscious of the excellent service rendered in both city and country by the St. John Ambulance Association," said Mr. Semple. "It is the first time such requests have been made, but there should liot be much trouble about that. X consider these men should be reimbursed for any outlay in gaining their certificates, as they are doing a service to humanity." The request for railway concession rates, he added, he would recommend to his colleague.
