CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED SOME INTERMITTENT RAIN The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows : —Pressure is high to the east. A shallow disturbance is located to the west of the North Inland, while a deep westerly depression "is advancing on to the southern portion of the Dominion. The forecast is for winds between north-east and north-west prevailing at first, but turning temporarily to west or in places south-west in the far north and over the southern half of the South Island; moderate .to strong generally and reaching gale force in exposed positions from Taranaki southward. Seas rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits and rather rougli on the east coast north of Banks Peninsula, but moderate thence southward. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate winds between northwest and south-west with moderate seas in the northern portion; strong northwesterly to westerly winds and rough seas in southern portion. The weather is likely to be fair to cloudy at first in Canterbury and Otago, elss\vhere cloudy to overcast and unsettled with intermittent rain in most places, and some heavy falls in central and western areas. Temperatures moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST OCCASIONAL SHOWERS The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. The weather is likely to be' changeable, with occasional showers and bright intervals. Temperatures moderate. Seas rather rough. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Unsettled weather was experienced yesterday. Rain fell in the early morning and during the afternoon and fairly heavy fog; was general for some hours last night. The wind during the day was fresh, moving from north-east to north, and last night it was light from the southrsouth-west. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees and the minimum 57 degrees. Barometric pressure fell fairly steadily. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.95 in. Midnight, Thursday . . .. 30.23 in. Wellington. —The day was overcast and at times misty with a strong northerly wind. Intermittent light rain fell. The maximum temperature was 58.8 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 29.832 in. Christchurch. —The morning was overcast but temperatures were mild. In the afternoon the sky cleared and the sun shone until evening. A light north-east wind blew all day. The barometer at 6 p.m. read 29.20 in. Dunedin. —The sky was.overcast and there was a cold breeze from the northeast which fell away later in the day, temperatures becoming " warmer, the maximum'being 58 degrees.
