JAPANESE APPEAL COURT ORDERS RETURN £2OOO DAMAGES AWARDED OTHER CASES NOW PENDING By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received September 14, 8.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. Id A message from Darwin states that Mr. Justice Wells in the Supreme Court upheld the appeal of the Japanese owners for the return of the pearling lugger Takuchicho Maru, which was seized last year by a patrol boat for alleged trespass in Australian territorial waters. His Honor also awarded the Japaneso owners £2OOO damages and ordered tho return of the pearl shell, which was also seized. Other appeals are pending. The Commonwealth Government has obtained a stay of proceedings for 21 days.
