AMERICAN DEFENCE

NAVY AND ARMY PLANS

NEW ARMOUR-PIERCING GUN AUTOMATIC LANDING DEVICE (Received September 14, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 The Chief of Staff of the United States Army, General Malin Craig, has announced that the Army has evolved an armour-piercing anti-tank gun vastly superior to those of other countries. It is a 37-millimetre mobile unit of extremely high muzzle velocity and with an overwhelming long range and fire power. A smaller weapon for use at close quarters is being developed. The Navy is testing a simple automatic blind flying landing device, which is claimed to bo foolproof. Two converging cables, which give off radio signals, are buried on the aerodrome. Pointers on. the aeroplane's instrument board show the machine's exact position on the landing path.

The equipment in the aeroplane costs £35 and that on the aerodrome £IOOO.
