Th(i weather report and forecast fo r New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows : —There is little change in the situation. Pressure is still high to the north while a deep' westerly depression one of a series, is passing in the'south' The forecast is for''jiorth-westerly winds prevailing, moderatc-,to strong over the northern half of the Jyprth Island, elsewhere strong and squally generally ' with boisterous gales in - temporarily to south-westerlies in parts of tlie southern half of the South Island. Seas moderate in coastal waters on most of the east coast, high about-' Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong north-west to south-west winds to gafe s and rough seas. The weather is likely to be mainly fair in eastern districts, Elsewhere unsettled, with rain at times, at first more especially on the west coast of the South Island, -where further heavy falls are probable, but rain gradually becoming more widespread. Temperatures warm east of,the ranges, elsewhere mild. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST SCATTERED RAIN LATER The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkbald last evening the follow, ing special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh northwest to west winds. The weather is likely to be fair, at first, but cloud increasing, and later some scattered rain. Mild temperatures. Seas slight to moderate on the east coast, moderate i to rather rough on the west coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine but cloudy weather with a moderate to fresh wind from the west-south-west, was experienced. The maximum temperature was 66 de- ; grees and the minimum 52 degrees,. Barometric pressure was steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.21f0, Midnight, Tuesday .. 30,21 in, Wellington.—The day was cloudy to overcast and mild, with a boisterous north-westerly gale. The maximum ternperature was -57.0 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 29.817 in. Christchurch. —The weather was fine and sunny, with a boisterous northwest wind. The maximum temperature ' was 69.2 degrees. The barometer fell slightly, and at 5 p.m. registered 29.56 in. Duncdin. —The sun shone brightly and there was a strong wind from the north-west. The weather was exceptionally warm, the temperature reaching • a maximum of 70 degrees. After rising on the previous day the barometer fell steadily to 29.40 in.
