CENTENNIAL PLANS
MATAMATA COUNCIL VOTE [by telecraph—nwx correspondent] M ATA MA TA, Wednesday Tho Matamata Borough Council decided to allocate up to £6OO for,the purpose of commemorating the Dominion Centennial. The amount is to be governed by the amount raised by tho public and will be equal to the amount of itho Government subsidy. Thus, if the public raises £I2OO the borough will make it up to £IBOO, and this will carry the Government subsidy of £6OO, making the total £2400. Tentative proposals were discussed for the building of concrete swimming baths and the planting of a plantation of trees.
It was decided to proceed with the work of making a deviation in the borough supply pipe line made necessary by landslides, whicfh had caused interruptions in tho town Avater supply.
FLUNKET AND REST ROOM PAPAKUHA! MEMORIAL A public meeting held in the Borough Council offices and presided over by the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, decided to make the" proposed Plunket and rest room, together with a children's playground, Papakuru's centennial memorial. The Mayor said the building would probably cost in the vicinity of £6OO. The playground, he thought, could be laid out by scheme 13 men. In a letter to the town clerk the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W, E. Parry, said that within the limits of the apportionment of £150,000 set aside by the Government as a contribution to the cost of both celebrations and memorials, a subsidy of £1 for £3 would bo available.
The following committee was elected to discuss plans of the building submitted: —Mrs. J. E. Johnstone, Mrs. B. C. Carpenter, Mrs. Salter, Messrs. A. Parris, H. Wishart and Dillicar, with the Mayor as chairman. To augment tho funds already in hand, the meeting decided to conduct a queen carnival. \
