DAVIS CUP TENNIS

FOOTFAULT RULE INCIDENT] QUIST'S SERVICE FILMED NEW YORK, Sept. 8 The footfault rule and the incident in the Davis Cup tournament continue to be the liveliest and most discussed topics. A motion picture was taken of the Australian Davis Cup player, A. K. Quist, for half an hour in an effort to determine exactly how he footfaults. The Australian team manager, H.O. Hopman, told the Australian Associated Press correspondent that he had 110 intention of doing anything about Quist's footfaulting this year, but he will definitely be coached next year to avoid it.

Quist said to the correspondent: "The meaninglessness of the rule was clearly demonstrated to-day. What purpose was served in calling footfaults, while I know that I was constantly footfaulting throughout the rest of the match, and not a fault was called against me? Principally I suppose thi» was in an effort to avoid further unpleasantness. I cannot change my method of serving in two minutes, and it is hopeless to try and do anything until 1939." .
