TRUCK HIT BY TRAIN

DRIVER SERIOUSLY HURT COLLISION AT CROSSING VEHICLE CARRIED 45 YARDS [by telegraph —own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday Serious injuries were suffered by Mr. Edward Davis, aged 25, of Tikipunga, as the result of a motor truck lie was driving being struck by a train at the Kensington crossing at 11.20 o'clock this morning. Mr. Davis, driving a lorry owned by Mr. S. G. Bignell, carrier, of Whangarei, was proceeding from the Kensington Racecourse with a load of soil. The train, which consisted of an engine with two cattle trucks, was proceeding to Whangarei. The truck was half across the rails when it was struck on the left side by the engine and thrown off the road over the footpath against a fence 45 yards away, coming to rest in a battered condition.

Mr. Davis was thrown on to the footpath between the train and the truck. He was attended by the train crew and Mrs. J. McMillan prior to his removal to the Whangarei Hospital. His injuries consist of extensive wounds to the left side of the face, fractures of both bones of the right arm, fracture of three ribs, besides shock and abrasions to the body.
