HISTORIC CANNON

One of the most historic guns in New Zealand, the old cannon that played such a prominent part in the defence of Russell against the Maoris in the War of the North in 1845-6. and which now stands on the waterfront of the town, is being repaired. The timbers on which the cannon is mounted had reached such a state of decay that it was feared that the gun would fall to the ground. A completely new frame lias been made to remount it.
