IRONICAL POSITION
ACTION AGAINST TENANT STATE HOUSING OVERSEER [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHANGAREI, "Wednesday "Most ironical," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Whangarei Magis* trate's Court, when M. J. Scally, the tenant of a house of which possession* was sought, gave his occupation as Public Works Department overseer at the State housing work at Whangarei. The house was administered in a deceased estate, it was stated, and as there was no will it went to the five children of deceased. One was a single woman living in lodgings and another a, married woman with three small children, and it was for these that the administrator of the estate desired possession. Mr. C. P. Collins, of the Labour Department, asked if the beneficiaries could claim under the Act and _ the magistrate decided that this position was covered. The question was then raised of relative hardship. After consultation with his wife the occupant offered to allow the use of two rooms for the married woman with her children. . . The. magistrate adjourned the case sine die remarking, "f am very pleased that'you have met the position. You have been very reasonable."
