NATIONAL CANDIDATE* MR. J. PARK CHOSEN f MEMBERS HOLD BALLOT BOUNDARY ALTERATIONS 1 At a special general meeting of ttem . bers of the National Party in the hunga electorate last night, Mr J Park was selected as ' the official National candidate to oppose the Labour member, Mr. A. G. Osborne, at the approaching general election. Mr G. Mills, chairman of the Auckland division of the party, presided over an attendance of more than 700. K een interest was taken in the meeting, some residents having arranged for a special bus. Mr. Park and the other nominee for candidature, V. Sutherland, addressed the meeting Sssid a ballot' was then taken.

The result of the polling at the general election in 1935 was as follows: W. J. Jordan (Labour), 9345 votes; H. J. Wily (Coalition), 2943; H. Thornley (Democrat), 1020. As the outcome of Mr. Jordan's appointment in 1936 as High Commissioner for New Zealand in jQpndon. a by-election was held, and iff; Osborne won the seat with 8593 'votes, against the 3998 polled by the National candidate, Mr. F. W. Doidge. At both the general election and the by-election the electorate was known as Manukau. The name was changed to Onehunga last year, when considerable boundary alterations were made, while retaining the greater part of the former Manukau electorate within the area. The northern limit is now Ranfurlj Road, the eastern boundary is Lake Road, Ellerslie, and the soutibern boundary is the foreshore of the Mannkau Harbtfur, from the Great South Road to Frederick Street on the eastern side of Hillsborough. Mr. Park has lived in the Onehunga district for many years, and has been a keen supporter of the National Party. He is a former Mayor of the borough and is at present a member of tk> Auckland Electric-Power Board, oi which he- is one of the original members, and q| several other public bodies. He is an architect by profession.
