EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (Received September 5, 5.30 p.m.) PARIS, Sept. 5 The European athletic championships were commenced, when 23 nations competed under Olympic rules. The outstanding winners so far are as follows:
TOO Metres, Osendarp (Holland), 10.55; 200 metres, Osendarp, -21.25; 400 metres, A. G. K. Brown, 47.15; 800 metres, Harbig (Germany), 1m 50.Gs; 5000 metres, Maeki (Finland). 11m 2G.Ss; 110 metres hurdles, D. O. Finlay. 14.3s —a European record; long jump, Leich.um (Germany), 25ft l%in; hammer throw, Hein (Germany), 192 ft 9%in —a world's record.
