AVONDALE CLUB

HANDICAPS DECLARED EVENTS ON SEPTEMBER 17 FLOOD TIDE TOP IN CUP JONATHAN HEADS FLYING Tho following weights for tho handicap events on the first day of the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, to lie held on September 17 and 19, have been declared by Mr. F. J. McManemin:—

HOMILY GALLOPS SOLID SIX FURLONGS RUSSIAN BALLET IN FORM TAURANGI ALSO GOES WELL [BY TELEGRAM —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANG AN UI, Saturday The gallops at Wanganui this morning took place under conditions which were not much diiferent from those obtaining on Thursday. Soaking rain fell on Friday night, making the track dead, although it was improving quickly under a strong wind. Most of the fast work was done on the outside of the course proper. Homily pleased in a gallop over six furlongs on 'the course proper, but she was closer in than others who were worked ovei the distance. She took 1.20 2-5, running the first two furlongs in 24 4-ss. Francis Drake covered a mile in 1.47 2-5, tlie last six furlongs taking L.20. Russian Ballet was responsible for what could be regarded as the best gallop of the morning by covering six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. She was wide out all the way, about loft, further out than the poles, which were ISft. out from the rails. The first two furlongs took 25s and she pulled up well. On the first day of tho meeting Russian Ballet will lie ridden by S. Wilson in the Flying Handicap, but B. H. Morris will be her pilot in the Wanganui Guineas.

Tanrangi was also in from Fordell for her Guineas trial and she gave a pleasing display by running six furlongs m 1.20 1-5, after covering the first two in 25 2-ss. Taurangi had close on 9st. in the saddle, whereas Russian Ballet's pilot in the gallop would be about 7st. Both . were satisfactory gallops. Taurangi is to be ridden in the Wanganui Guineas by A. Messervey, who will also ride her in the Flying Handicap on Thursday. Bed Cat, who is engaged in the Durie Hack Handicap on Thursday, was not fully extended to run five furlongs in 1,(5. covering the first two in 25 4-ss. She looks very well. Buatiti, the full-brother to Porotiti, who is not engaged at the coming meeting, took 4J 2-5s for three furlongs and moved along freely. Rehearsal and Minga were not required to make time, putting in a good working gallop over six furlongs after having cantered for a circuit. If Minga pleases in the Maiden Race on Thursday it would not be surprising to find iter displacing Rehearsal as one of Mr. (!. M. Currie's representatives in the Wanganui Guineas. I l '- Latham will ride her in the Maiden Race. Submission and Portal, the two-vear-olds from W. Rn.vner's stable, wero not sent against the watch, but worked over four furlongs in about 56 2-ss. Amatory pleased better than All Bunshy and Middle over four furlongs in 535. Amatory is engaged in the Durie Hack Handicap on Thursday and all Bunshy in the Maiden Race. K. Cliote will ride both.

Golden Pain, tho laal f-sistor, by Lnckhnm, to Aga Khan, slipped over four furlongs in 51 4-ss. Slio is engaged in tho Trial Handicap on Saturday. Tho two-year-olds Authoress and Kohi were associated over three furlongs in 41 s, with the former in front at tho finish. Tho Pulandshar colt Kohi was inclined to hang out. In addition to riding Pussian "Ballet in tho Wanganui Guineas P. 11. Morris has lieen engaged to ride Brazen King and Laughing Lass in their first-da.v engagements. S. Wilson's mounts on Thursday will he Morning Flight, Hod Cat, Granvale, Liane, Peerless and Russian Ballet, and on Saturday lie will he on Peerless. W. .1. Broughton will ho on Warelii and Sporting Gift on Thursday and on Gay Son in (lie Wanganui Guineas.
