DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNUAL. TOURNEY CONCLUDED [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] TIMARU, Sunday The Dominion basketball championships were concluded yesterday. Heavy rain in the morning forced a number of games to be played,/ on an indoor court. The weather improved in tho afternoon, when the concluding games were played outside. In the first grade "Wellington and Canterbury tied for the championship with 0 points. Southland was runner-up with G, and then came Otago, 4, Hawke's Bay, 1, Auckland, 0. In the second grade South Canterbury went through, without loss and won tho section with 14 points. Southland Minor scored 11, Ashburton 9, Manawatu 8, Wairoa 7, Wai« kato 4, Hutt Valley 3, Wairarapa 0. The third grade was won by Bush, which was also undefeated in the tournament. The last sramcs were played in a drizzle in tho late afternoon in tho presence of a fair crowd, In the first grade Wellington was too strong for Otago, winning by a good margin. Unexpected opposition was offered by Hawke's Bay against Canterbury, particularly in the second spell, but toward the close Canterbury gained tho upper hand. Canterbury played / better against Southland to maintain its unbeaten record, as did Wellington. A draw between these teams left them joint champions. ' RESULTS IN FOUR SECTIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN* COT?RESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Sunday Twenty-four teams from ell parts of the North Island were engaged in tho annual Rotorua basketball tournament, for the Kurungaituku trophy which commenced at the Government Gardens on Friday and concluded yesterday afternoon. The final was witnessed by the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson, and Mrs. Jackson, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the, Hon. W. E. Parry, nn.d Mrs, Parry, Mr. A F. Moncur, M.P., and Mrs. Moncur, and Mr. D. Barnes, M.P.. and Mrs. Barnes. Prior to the final game a parade of teams in uniform was held through the town, providing a spectacular conclusion to the tournament Unfortunately, the weather was very changeable for both days, but, with tho exception of tho last ten minutes, it was fine for the finals.'
