PHYSICAL TRAINING
MR. SUTCLIFFE'S VIEWS
IMPORTANCE IN SCHOOLS MELBOURNE, August; 30 The former principal of Scots College, Wellington, Mr. J. R. Sutcliffe, now headmaster of Melbourne Grammar School, was the guest of honour at a social at the school arranged by the Old Melbournians' Association. Mr. Sutcliffe said that in New Zealand he had attached great importance to proper physical training. He was glad to see a strong cadet detachment at the school.
"No one is anxious," added Mr Sutcliffc, "to train boys for war, but it is difficult to avoid the fact that we live in a world full of jealous neighbours at a time when the spirit of brotherly love seems to have been forgotten." Hiding rifles from school boys was no more going to stop war than hiding umbrellas was going to stop rain.
